SLIS Colloquium Series "The Future of Public Libraries"

The School of Library and Information Science invites you to:
A Colloquium with Dr. Carla Hayden Director, Enoch Pratt Free Library

The Future of Public Libraries

Where: Caldwell Auditorium
When:  Thursday, September 15, 6:00 p.m.

Abstract:  As the publishing industry evolves, technology advances, and demographics change, the future of the public library is a subject of speculation in many arenas. Will the public library continue to be the “the people’s university?” Will the public library be relevant to the digital natives in schools and on campuses? Will the profession of librarianship be able to adapt to forces with sufficient economic and social implications? These and other issues will be the focus of a thought provoking presentation by an active member of the urban library community.

Some units of study focus more on communication in organisational contexts and the management of communication, while others deal with forms of media communication, reception and production with a particular emphasis on issues of construction, textuality and interpretation.
